March 16 th , for the purposes of Freemasonry . ;' . The design of the edifice .. ( by Bro . Appleton ) is certainly as superb as it is novel ; while the execution of the work reflects great credit on Mr . John Harvey ( Melville-place ) , the builder . The Brethren from Brixhani and Dartmouth mustered in large numbers to participate in the auspicious festivities ; and at the conclusion of the ceremonies , they repaired to the banquet at Hoarder ' s Family Hotel , which was presided over by the W . M . of St . John ' s Lodge , Bro . Dr . Paget Blake . Several initiations into the mysteries of the Craft are about to take place , and there can be but little doubt that the Lodge of St . John will be the most prosperous in the province of Devonshire .

Being in close proximity to the camp , much confidence lias been always felt and expressed by those members of the Craft who constituted themselves founders of the Panmure Lodge , that it would prove a great boon to the military Brethren , and become one of the largest Lodges in the kingdom . The experience of two months has fully verified the correctness o > f this opinion . The Lodge now consists of forty-seven members , of whom nineteen are novices , . whilst there are five entered upon the books for initiation , and double that number for election as joining members , —the relative proportion of
military and civilian being pretty equally balanced . The first appointments as officers of the Lodge were : —Bros . Wentworth Dawes ( Lieutenant , Military Train ) , W . M . ; T . Simpson , S . W . ; Captain Massey ( of " Redan" celebrity ) , J . W . ; Storry , Treas . ; White , Sec . ; Quarter-Master Lambert , S . D . ; Wood , J . D . ; ' and H . J . Thompson , London , I . G . In the first instance , as specified in the charter , the first Thursday in the month was selected as the night for holding the Lodge , but owing to that being the market-day at Farnham , the nearest town , and a place from whence several members have been obtained , it is considered expedient to alter the night to the first Tuesday in each month ; notice to which effect has been transmitted to both the Grand Lodge and the Prov . Grand Lodge .
