RANGOON . We are glad to learn that the celebration by the Masonic brethren of Rangoon of the day sacred to the patron of their Order , St . John , was a complete success . The members of the town Lodge , the Star of Burmah , and the Lodge No . 322 , attached to the 29 th regiment , together with a number of unattached Brethren , to the number of upwards of fifty , marched in procession in the morning to the cantonment church , where a sermon was preached by the Rev . Bro . Wray , chaplain of H . M . S . Penelope , to whom -the- ' pulpit was resigned for the occasion by the Rev . Mr . Howard , for which kind concession the rev . gentlemen received due thanks at the hands of the Craft . In the evening , about seventy of the Brethren
assembled to partake , of the the hospitality of Lodge Star of Burmah , at the house of Bro . J . S . Jordan , P . M ., where a banquet was prepared . The excellent band of the 29 th regiment was in attendance , and the festivities were prolonged till past midnight , having been marked throughout by the fraternal spirit which so happily and generally | characterizes such meetings among the Brethren of the mystic tie , " ever , as they say of themselves , " happy to meet , sorry to part , happy to meet again . Constantinople . —Oriental Lodge ( No . 988 ) . —The Brethren assembled at their Lodge in Pera , on the 29 th January , 1858 , when the Lodge being opened in due form and with solemn prayer in the 1 st Degree , the W . M ., Bro . Silly , called the attention of the Brethren to the solemn appearance of the Lodge , and informed them it was in mourning for our deceased Bro . Gabriel R . Ford . He , the W . M ., was certain that both his public and private virtues were well known , and bis death deeply regretted by all . He trusted that , as it had pleased the G . A . O . T . U . to call him from amongst us , he was now raised to the Sublime Degree in the Grand Lodge above . The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed , the Lodge was opened in the 2 nd and subsequently in the 3 rd Degree , when all Brethren below the P . M . Degree withdrew , and the ceremony of installation of the W . M . ( Bro , Silly , who was again elected ) was most
efficiently performed by Bro . George Lawrie , P . M ., assisted by Bro . Ferdinand A . Hiihnel , P . M . The Lodge being closed in the 3 rd and' 2 nd Degrees , the Brethren were readmitted , and the W . M . proclaimed in the usual manner . The W . M . then appointed his Officers , viz . —Bros . S . Aznavour , S . W . ; D . Galetly , J . W . ; Matthew Hooper , S . D . ; Alfred Hitchmough , J . D . ; Theodore Kinzlebach , I . G . On the reappointment of Bro . W . W . Evans as Secretary , the W . M .
informed him it was his pleasing duty to hand him a handsome gold snuff-box , with a suitable inscription , telling him it was a testimonial from the Brethren of the Oriental Lodge of their appreciation of his services during the past year , and of his unceasing exertions in endeavouring from the first to found the Lodge , at the same time informing him that a suitable document would be given him ( to accompany the testimonial ) as soon as it could be procured from England .
