UNION OF THE TO THE EDITOR OP THE ^ REEMASONS MoAZINE AND ^ Dear Sir and Brother , —It is with no ordinary feelings of pleasure that I am enabled to announce to yon and , through your Magazine , to your numerous readers , the great and important fact , that the Fraternity in the State of New York are now an united fraternity . The achievement of this event has been looked forward to with a degree of anxiety by every true Mason , and will be hailed with joy by all .
Hie union has been achieved , too , upon terms which are alike honourable to all parties—mutual concessions of policy were made—no abandonment of principle has been attempted by either party . The archives , property , and money of both bodies are placed in the hands of the proper officers , and it is declared that " there is but one Grand Lodge in the state of New York , whose jurisdiction is co-extensive with the boundaries of the state ; " and all the Past Officers and Past Grand Officers of both parties are recognized as Past Grand Officers .
All suits at law are to be discontinued , and " the parties of record in said suits " are required to consent to the same . The expenses of both parties in the suits are to be paid out of the moneys at issue , and the balance to be placed in the " Hall and Asylum Fund . " Thus you will perceive there has been no patching up of the difficulty , but a real and bond fide healing of the whole matter .
The immense influence which New York exerts among her sister jurisdictions renders it essential to future peace and harmony that the principles should be clearly defined , at least all such as have necessarily been brought prominently forward in the investigation and conference . The committees of conference were—on the one side , Edward Cook , James Jenkinson , and John A . Kennedy ; on the other , Finley M . King , H . C . Vogel , James W . Powel , James B . Taylor , and Thomas Sommers .
