The minutes ^ were confirmed , the matter is settled—and though in a manner contrary to our opinions , and as we believe to the dignity of Grand Lodge , we are of course hound to acquiesce in the decision ; and we shall not attempt to show that the B . G-M . altogether Mled to answer the chief points of the argument upon which the motion for the non-confirmation of the minutes was based . But we must
again protest against the Freemasons' Magazine being identified with the opinions of any particular Brother , any more than it is usual to identify the opinions of the proprietors of newspapers who hold seats in the legislature with the leading articles of their respective journals , the large majority of which they never see until the papers appear upon their breakfast tables , only receiving them simultaneously with the ^ ^^ ^ ^ ^^ their journals . It will , of course

G . D ., in consideration of his long services to Grand Lodge . This was met by an amendment from Bro . the Bev . Gr . K . Portal , to the effect that Grand Lodge , acknowledging the valuable services of Bro . Chapman , should present him with a P . Dir . of Cers . jewel in testimony thereof ,
thereby refusing the brevet rank proposed by the Grand Master . After a short discussion the amendment was carried , by a majority of 102 to 88 . Much as we approve of the decision come to by the Grand Lodge , we cannot but express our regret that the subject was ever raised , as it has been the means of inflicting unnecessary pain on a most worthy Brother . We fully appreciate the motives which induced the M . W . G . M . to bring the resolution before Grand Lodge ,
but we cannot but think his lordship's constitutional advisers should have dissuaded him from a step which was sure to be looked upon with considerable jealousy by Grand Lodge . We hold that Bro . Chapman has lost nothing by the decision , as he will be as highly respected as P . Dir . of Cers . as it would be possible for him to be as
