The Ancient Ahd Accepted Rite
had been filled by Bro . > A . T . Holroyd , member of the parliament of New South Wales . Bro . Watson Wilson , a most promising and rising ^ oung Mason , was elected W . M . for this year . Bro . Wilson most deservedly enjoys the friendship of the Brethren . This Lodge , although the youngest English Lodge in the colony , is daily gaining in prosperity . Bro . Murphy , P . M ., performed the ceremony of installation .
Lodge o f Aus ralia , No . 548 . —This Lodge , although last stated , is the oldest Lodge in the colony of those working under the English constitution , and the Lodge to which many of our most zealous and distinguished Brethren belong . The W \ M . for the present year is Bro . B . Palmer , a most worthy and estimable member of the Graft , who was installed by Bro . Dobson , P . M . ( The notice of this Lodge is thus placed , because of the order in which the various W . Ms . were installed , and we trust may not be imputed to any disrespect . )
At the close of the various meetings the Brethren sat down to most ample entertainments , provided at the Freemasons' Tavern , York-street , where the utmost good feeling and brotherly love ' prevailed .
ROYAL ARCH
Zetland Chapter , —The first meeting of the Zetland Royal Arch Chapter took place on the first Monday in January . This is the only Chapter in the colony under the English constitution , and has been got up in a style well worthy of its object . It has been established now nearly three years , and is ably worked by its Officers and Companions—Comps . Aaron , Loveeroft , De Lissa , Wilson , and Leworthy , P . Z ., an old colonist , and good working Mason . The admission fee to this Chapter is double of that which is usually charged in England , and ' it is most respectably attended . Several Brethren were exalted to the Sublime Degree , and , after having spent an agreeable evening at the banquet , separated at twelve o ' clock .
Australasian Masonic Benevolent Widows and Orphans Fund . —This fund has been in existence nearly three years , and is well supported by the various Lodges . The capital has now accumulated to about £ 700 , which is placed at profitable interest '; our worthy Brother and old colonist , R . W . Moore , the Prov . G . Treasurer , being one of its principal guardians .
Australasian Freemasons' Hall . —This building is situated in the centre of the city , and was , previously to its present use , the town hall , and the municipal council-chamber is now used as the Lodge-room . It was purchased in shares , and adapted to the use of the Craft ; but the rapid increase of the Masonic body will soon render more commodious and better ventilated premises absolutely necessary . In concluding these particulars of the Craft in Australia , it may be stated that the Brethren are most anxious for communication with their English Brethren .
The Brethren in the colony have for years been unable to obtain their Grand Lodge certificates : can you inform them whether it has been finally arranged by the Grand Lodge if the reduction of fees has taken place , and the blank certificates are in course of being forwarded—as nothing short of that will satisfy the Brethren here . And further , is it in contemplation to act in the same manner respecting the Royal Arch certificates and fees ? Veritas .
[ There has been some delay at the printers' in preparing the certificates , but we are assured they are now ready and in course of issue . We have never heard of any alteration being contemplated with regard to the Royal Arch certificates
