At the conclusion of the performance , the children were regaled with cake and wine ; the governor and committee expressed their thanks for the courtesy and entertainment afforded them and those intrusted to their care . the departure of the children , the committee adjourned to the residence of Bro . Gurton , whose hospitality is proverbial , and to whom a vote of thanks was tendered for his share in the promotion of the day ' s treat .
