full moon , and new members are constantly being added to the Lodge , so that there is every probability of its continued prosperity . On Thursday afternoon , June 24 th , according to ancient custom , the Brethren celebrated the annual festival of St . John the Baptist , at the Hare and Hounds Inn ; when the chair was ably filled by Bro . William Binns , W . M . ; and the harmony of the evening was considerably enhanced by the excellent singing of Bros .
Edrrmndson , Roe , and Stott , accompanied on the pianoforte by Bro . Joshua Openshaw . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given by the W . M ., and appropriate addresses were delivered by Bro . George M . Tweddell , of No . 50 , and Bro . David Shaw , P . M ., of No . 711 , both of whom urged on the Brotherhood the importance of acquiring a thorough knowledge of the working of the Craft , and above all ^ of strictly carrying out in all their conduct through life the sublime
teachings of Freemasonry . One of the most pleasing sights of the evening was the number of hale old labourers in the good cause who were present ; one member , Bro . Thomas Hill , being in the ninety-fifth year of his age . Bro . John Cooper , the Tyler , now in his eightieth year , is a fine specimen of the old Lancashire people ; he has been forty-six years a member of Lodge No . 50 , and has only missed five of its monthly meetings during the whole of that period .
