on Tuesday next , the day appointed for the funeral of our late lamented Brother Foikard , P . M . and Treasurer , for the purpose of testifying their respect to his memory by following his remains to their last resting . place . "; .- ' It was resolved' 'That theW . M . be requested to convene a Lodge of emergency to consider
what further and lasting tribute can be paid to the memory of our late Bro . Foikard ; and that the standing committee be requested to consider the subject and report thereon . " Bro . Gr . M ., then stated that in consequence of the melancholy event he was satisfied he should be acting in accordance with the best wishes of the Brethren if he postponed performing any other work this evening , but such as was absolutely necessary .
At a Lodge of emergency held on Friday , the 25 th inst . > the report of the cbmniittee was received and entered on the minutes , and the following resolutions unanimously agreed to : —^ Firsb , that the letter of condolence as prepared by the committee be signed by the W . M ., Wardens , Past Masters , and Secretary of the Lodge , and transmitted to the bereaved famil y of our lamented Bro . Foikard . The Lodge being adjourned , the Brethren retired to refreshment . Bro . G . E . Pocock , W . M . of the Lodge , Prov . G . Sec , and P . M . No ; 338 , presided , and Bro . William Verrall , Prov . G . Treas ., P . M . No . 338 , and S . W . No . 390 , and Bro . Wood , G . S . and P . M . No . 394 , occupied the Wardens' chairs . On this occasion the Lodge was honoured with the attendance of Bro . Gaptain Dalbiac , who has recently been appointed by the Duke of Richmond Prov . G . M ., as D . Prov . G . M . In
addition to Bros . Butcher , Gell , Cooke , and several Brethren of Lodge 390 , there were present Bros . Bacon and Ambrosoni of No . 1034 ; Bros . Curtis , of 394 , The cloth removed , and due honour paid to the customary loyal and Masonic toasts , the W . M ., very eloquently proposed the health of the D . Prov . G . M . Bro . Dalbiac , expressing his regret that non-residence and distance had induced the resignation of their late D . Prov . G . M . Bro . Col . Mc Queen , and congratulating the Brethren
on having such an able successor in Bro , Dalbiac , who had at all times evinced a desire to promote the prosperity of the Craft , and more especially Lodge No . 390 . He begged to convey the thanks of the Lodge and Brethren present to Bro . Dalbiac for his presence . The D . Prov . G . M . at some length acknowledged the toast , tendering his thanks for the manner in which it had been received , and stating his intention of cultivating a general acquaintance with the Brethren of the province . The Ci Prosperity of the South Saxon Lodge , " was proposed by the W . M ., and "The health of the W . M . " by the D . Prov . G . M ., who referred to the services of Bro . Pocock in the province , and his valuable
assistance in resuscitating the South Saxon Lodge . The W . M . acknowledged the same in most feeling terms , noticing the yearly progress of the Lodge to its present position , with a treble increase of members , and an absence of debt , his pleasure at the efficient working of the officers , the material assistance of Bros . Wilkinson , Verrall , & c , and said that in consequence , he should retire from his office with pride and gratification . The most gratifying feature of the evening was a tribute of respect paid to a late Brother and provincial officer , by the W . M ., who most touchingly introduced the toast of (< The memory of Bro . Foikard . " The evening was a truly happy one , and the visiting Brethren returned to Brighton by a special train , at half-past tea o ' clock .
