SUSSEX . CONSECBATION OF THE EOYAL BBtJN-SWICK LODGE , NO . 1 , $ 04 . Brighton . —The consecration of a new Lodge , an event which has not taken place in Brighton for upwards of fifty years , attracted a very numerous assemblage of the Craft to the Old Shi p Hotel , on Thursday , the 27 th inst . The Lodge was
opened shortly after four o ' clock . Bro . John Hervey , P . G . D . having been deputed by the Grand Master , at the request of the brethren of the new Lodge to perform the ceremony of consecration . There were present : —Bros . Jennings , G-. Dir . of Cers . ; W . R . Wood , G . Steward , No . . 27 " . ; " Foikard , Prov . G . Reg . ; Gordy , Prov . S . G . W . ; Bacon , Prov . J . G . W . ; Verrall , Prov . G , Treas . ; Gavin Pocock , Prov . G . Sec . ; Powell , Prov . G . D . ; Rev . —Watkins , Prov . G . Chap . ; Schilling , Prov . G . Dir . of Cers . ; Cherriman , Prov . G . Pursvt . ; Furner , P . Lawler , Fielding , and Shoubridge ^ assisted by severalof the n on-professional Brethren with good effect .
Bro . Hervey next proceeded with the ceremony of installation , Bro . Bacon , P . M ., of the Royal York Lodge , being designated the first W . M , in the warrant of constitution . Notwithstanding ^ of P . M . the installation ceremony was at the request of the Brethren of the Lodge performed in its entirety ; At the conclusion of the ceremony , the W . M . appointed and invested his officers as follows ; Bros . A . Ambrosini , S . W . ; E . Marten , J . W . ; P . R . Williamson , Sec . SD JD IG | Freeman , .. ; Poole , .. ; Bonner , .. ; Emary , Dir . of Cers . ; Hardy , Steward . Bro . S . Ridley was next unanimously elected Treasurer , and Hawthorn Tyler .
Bro . Williamson begged to propose that a vote of thanks should be recorded on the first page of the minutes of the Lodge to Bro . Hervey , P . G . D . for hia valuable services that day . Bro . Ambrosini seconded the motion which was unanimously carried . Bro . Hervey assured the Brethren that he felt highly honoured at the compliment paid him , and if at at any time his services could prove of value to the lodge , he should always be ready to do the utmost in his power to promote its interests . All business being ended the Lodge was closed in due form .
About half-past six o'clock , about seventy of the Brethren re-assembled in the assembly room of the hotel , where a very elegant banquet had been prepared for their entertainment . The cloth having been removed , and grace said by the Prov . G . Chap ., the W . M . proceeded to give the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , which were duly honoured . On coming to the fourth toast ,
The W . M , said they were that evening honoured with the presence of three Grand Officers , Bros . Hervey , Jennings , and Wood , all of whom he was sure the Brethren were proud to see amongst them . He proposed to them the health of the Right Hon . Lord Panmure , R . W . D . G . M ., and the rest of the Grand Officers , couplecVwith the name of Brother Jennings .
Bro . Jennings , G . Dir . of Cers ., said , that when one so small in person and so little in position as himself ( laughter ) was called upon to address such a meeting , in reply to such a toast , he could not do so without some embarrassment . They would allow him to say , that even though LordPanmure were present himself , however , in the v / ords of a song they had just heard , he might laugh at war , he might well quail if called upon to return thanks to so numerous a company for the
honour conferred upon the Grand Officers . If that were so , how much more difficult must it be for him to do justice in acknowledging the compliment . He could only assure them that the manner in which the toast had been received would be as gratifying to Lord Panmure and the other Grand Officers , when he communicated it to them , as it was to himself .
