The Architectural Publication Society draws its length : along more slowly than is desirable . The Arclritecturai Dictionary is still in letter C . We should like to say a word about it to our architectural readers who have hot subscribed , and to readers who are architectural amateurs . The subscription to the Architectural Publication Society is only one guinea a year , in return for which the subscriber gets more than a guinea's worth of engravings and text , the editorship , authorship , and much of the
drawing being purely gratuitous ; the contributions * including the compositions and observations of several of the best known architects of the day . The ArcMiectural Dictionary ^ on a comprehensive scale—which , as we have observed , has as yet only reached C—is one of the noblest works of the day , the illustrations for each article being furnished from the vast collections of drawings of our distingiiish € d architects . Among those who have so afforded drawings for the last year ' s productions are Professor

The editorship has chiefly devolved on Mr . Wyatt Pap worth , Mr . Octavius Hansard , and Mr . G . Hayter Lewis . Letter D is now in active preparation .
It will be observed that the senior members of the profession are to be found contributing from their stores , and that many junior members are also zealously at work . It is , indeed , one of the most remarkable enterprises of the day , because it does not depend solely on the guinea subscriptions like an ordinary publishing society , but to a great degree on the co-operation of its members as literary men ; so that a literary distinction
is being achieved by the society , which it is to be hoped will be long enjoyed by many of its members who have taken part in its noble exertions . That the Architectural Dictionary will be completed there can be no doubt , because the society is yearly gaining strength , and therefore there can be no hesitation in joining the society under the fear that a few guineas may be spent on an unfinished work like the last effort of the Useful Knowledge Society—the " Biographical Dictionary . "
It will be seen that this is really a great public enterprise , and that it is dependent on the zeal and contributions of those connected with architecture . Were these contributions doubled the Dictionary would be finished in half the time , while the subscribers would get double the quantity of text and illustrations . We therefore urge upon those of our readers who feel an interest in the subject to subscribe for the promotion of this society , as to which they will obtain the necessary information from Mr . Wyatt Papworth , the honorary secretary . We have observed that much of the
