George ' s Encampment . —There was a meeting of this Encampment at Radley ' s Hotel , Blackfriars , on Friday , 18 th June , when , from various causes , only a few members were in attendance . Amongst those present were Sir Knt . G . Wackerbarth , now Pater of the Encampment ; Sir Knt . R . Spencer , and Sir Knt . R . Costa—all P . E . Commanders ; a strong muster of visitors were also in attendance , and rendered most efficient service , particularly Sir Knt . Hinxman ,
Prov . G . Com . for Kent , who officiated for the E . C , and installed two candidates into the mysteries of this exalted Order , viz . : —Comps . W . H . Read , Prov . G . M . for the Eastern Archipelago , and E . S . Phillips , of the King ' s Arms Chapter . The office of 1 st Captain was most efficiently sustained by the Grand Chancellor , Sir Knt . Masson ; that of 2 nd Captain , by Sir Knt . Figg ; and Sir Knt . Laird acted for the Expert : the two latter Knights , as well as the acting E . C . being members of the Kemeys Tynte Encampment , and had
kindly volunteered their services ; the other visitors were Sir Knt . Hassall ( also of Kemeys Tynte Encampment ) , and Sir Knt . Dr . William Jones , of the St . John Aboyne Encampment , Aberdeen . Sir Knt . Read , in returning thanks on behalf of himself and Sir Knt . Phillips , after their health had been proposed and drunk , expressed himself much gratified at the careful manner in which the ceremony of installation had been performed , and then went on to
say , that on his return to Singapore it was his hope to be able to establish native schools , under the auspices of the Masonic body , where Masonic principles would be inculcated , feeling confident that they would have more effect in civilizing the natives , and preparing their minds to receive the sacred truths of Christianity than all the schools that have hitherto been established in India ; as his experience taught him that many of the regulations enforced im most of
